Summary:
Aboard the Grinning Pixie, also known as the Arcadian Mariner’s Lodge which was Venture Captain Calisro Benarry’s ship, the Pathfinders were given a mission to infiltrate Pezzack and recover Olandil, a nearly forgotten Pathfinder stranded in there since the start of its most recent rebellion.
The plan to smuggle the Pathfinders on a whaling ship went smoothly (though it reeked of fishy stench) as they eventually meet up with their contact within the town; Kalizandrex Poppo, a professor at the Academy of Applied Magic. Apologizing for an uncomfortable journey the Pathfinders had to take (as he helped to clean them up), Poppo went on to explain that Olandil managed to survive his abandonment in the anarchic town by acquiring various magic items of disguise and assumed three identities: Docktown thug, Galtan spy, and Pezzacki poet. Unfortunately, Chelish loyalists captured him a month ago, and are forcing him to employ all of his identities to destabilize the other factions. At his wits’ end and close to being found out, Olandil raised an unprecedented call for help to the Society through Poppo. It was now time for the Pathfinders to track down Olandil and convince him to come back to the Society before escaping together.
The Pathfinders carefully went about Pezzack to gather information about Olandil, and eventually found out more details about each of Olandil’s personas. While going about, they had notably accidentally aided the anarchic Galtans (rebels) against the Chelish loyalists (who were after Olandil too) when Nu Mor let loose a gunshot that hit one of the loyalist to break up a fight. Eventually they discover that Olandil plans to give a performance at Manukirt trade warehouse under his alias of Jaks Arunai (a Pezzacki poet), and use a magic item called a rod of influence to sew enough confusion so that it could possibly help him to escape from the city. At the performance, Olandil puts on a show and uses the rod of influence while secretly signalling the Pathfinders to follow him, which fortunately Enya and Quinn recongnised the hidden Pathfinder signals. They tried to escape with Olandil into the sewers beneath the town, only to find their attempts futile when Chelish loyalists intercepted. They quickly dispatched the small group of Chelish loyalists before they begin to think of a new plan to escape from Pezzack... the loyalists had tightened up the naval blockade to trap Olandil, and escaping via a whaling ship was now impossible.
The Pathfinders then thought of one last person who could help, Professor Poppo. Quickly making their way back to Poppo's Academy, they were thrilled to learn that he had a plan ready for an escape, a dead whale that could act as a submarine! Unfortunately, him still needed some time to prepare, and stated that it would be difficult to carry out the plan without drawing too much attention unless the Pathfinders could get some help from a faction in Pezzack. Seeing that they had probably made a good impression to the Galtans the most, the Pathfinders set out to meet them and easily secured an alliance with them after helping them clear out the strix-infested abandoned tower on the western edge of town. The guns that the Pathfinders had easily outmatched the annoying flying strix. Impressed with the Pathfinders work, the Galtans also promised to help counter any anti-Pathfinder propoganda that the Chelish loyalists might produce.
With the Galtans starting an open rebellion to distract the Chelish loyalists, the Pathfinders could then escape via the whale submarine with Kalizandrex Poppo and Olandil. But half way through the blockade, a small team of Chelish loyalists intercepted them and shot harpoons in to the whale and tug sharply, causing the whale to lurch to a sudden stop! Enya and Nu Mor with their Breath of Experience, were prepared to hold on to something stable to avoid falling down but the others weren't expecting this and tumbled to the floor. The small band of Chelish loyalists then barged into the inner whale from the top blowhole and started their assualt on the escapees, opening up with a Fireball! Worse still, an incutilis suddenly immerged from the back of the whale and started attacking Olandil! Fortunately, the Pathfinders quickly took out the enemy mage first before finishing off the goons while Olandil managed to fight the incutilis by himself. With all threats cleared, the whale submarine could safely submerge and evade the blockade. Soon, the whale was at the rendezvous point with the Grinning Pixie.
Conclusion
With Olandil’s information, the Society gains a significant advantage in future expeditions in western Cheliax. Also, Olandil being impressed by the rookies saving him from this mess, rejoined the Pathfinder Society as he thanked them for rescuing him.
Olandil: "Better late than never I suppose."
Captain Calisro Benarry: "Welcome back Olandil!"
So ends the chronicles of Out Of Anarchy.
