Pathfinder Report of Aeonica Yukiko Tayatomi Kaleendar (N female kitsune dual-cursed oracle 5):
I was enjoying the sights and sounds of the metropolis Katapesh when I soon recieved word that Venture-Captain Wulessa Yuul needed the Pathfinder Team to the Farseer Tower urgently. There, she tasked us with acquiring the Monadistic Archive, currently in the possession of Palhuna Murqual, a rather unscrupulous merchant. Wasting no time, the Pathfinder team and I set off to meet with Murqual.
Murqual was willing to sell to it to us if we agree to do a few favors for him first. With some nice words, I managed to convince the merchant to just do 2 favors instead of 3 and it was a much better deal instead of wasting so much time on errands that could be done by someone else.
1st was to negotiating a deal with some problematic gnolls, the Pathfinders and I did our best to please the gnolls but they were insisting on a deal that was clearly trying to rip us off. Not agreeable to our fair trade, they started to pack up and leave. Considering that this was unacceptable, we attacked them and knocked them all out before we took off with the stuff we needed while still giving them the money from our initial fair deal, this also seemed to relieve much of our stress after not having a fight for quite a while.
2nd was to make a 'purchase' from Madame Jelaris with 20 years of life! It seemed quite terrible that people would have their life spans shorten but I decided that since I would one day become immortal, what was 20 years to me? Besides, I can be a willing test subject of that life-sucking contraption that Madame Jelaris has made and make a whole new separate report of it one day.
Madame Jelaris explained: "I insert a tube down your throat extracting an essence from your lungs. It doesn’t actually age you. It’s not as though time goes faster, but it does prematurely wear down your body by a few years."
I was taken to the back of Jelaris' shop where I was told to lay down on a surprisingly comfortable slab before the tube was inserted deep into my throat. I was kind of surprised I didn't need to be tied/strapped down as Jelaris said that this isn't some Kuthite torture ritual but did warn that it was going to be a little uncomfortable. After about an hour, I felt as though I wasn't as agile as before, my dexterity has worsen! Thankfully, my party was kind enough to let me use a scroll of lesser restoration to fix me back into good shape as our 2nd task was done.
With the 2 favors completed, Murqual handed to us the Monadistic Archive as promised and we could then report back to the Farseer Tower where Wulessa eagerly awaited for us to aid her in activating it.
After asking Wulessa how the Monadistic Archive works and what we needed to do while experiencing a psychic phenomenon called a mindscape, we all sit on the floor, lighted the candles, and snuff out the other lights. Wulessa proceeded to join the circle and unrolled the scroll before her, and she has us all link hands while singing a song recitation in Jistkan. When Wulessa Yuul finished her seance, she bowed her head over the scroll and then remained completely still and silent... we thought it would be rude to interrupt a post prayer/meditation but after waiting for more than 10 minutes, something felt odd. As our alchemist professor went to poke Wulessa, she suddenly stood up and her head snapped off, revealing a new head with a terrible visage! She cackled madly and attacked us, proclaiming that we have fallen into her trap and that our souls were hers! The professor hastely identified this ugly creature to be a Night Hag and we all ganged up upon the scary monster before any of our souls would be lost and to perhaps avenge Wulessa whom we thought killed by it. Fortunately, it seemed that this 'Night Hag' was an illusion, some kind of shadow conjuration, it was not real! The pihrana striker quickly took it out once we all realised it was not real and sighed a breath of relief. Now that the threat was gone, we tried to leave the room via the door but could not open it no matter what we did as it had merged together with the walls! We tried the going out through the windows next but somehow ended up 'teleporting' back into the room when we jumped out of the window!
Kineticist: "WOW! THIS IS INCEPTION!"
Pihrana Striker: "Inception!? Now, before you bother telling me it's impossible..."
Alchemist Professor: "No, it's perfectly possible. It's just bloody difficult."
Kineticist: "There is no spoon!"
Blaster Sorcerer: "Whatever burns here, we can kill it!"
After figuring out we were all in a mindscape, we suddenly found ourselves in another room, a young Wulessa's room. There we found our Venture Captian trapped inside a mirror as she explained about what was going on. We were stuck inside a mental “landscape” and in order to free ourselves and Wulessa from it, we needed to travel through thoughts and memories drawn from the venture-captain, ourselves, and the whoever/whatever the archive has in store...
Soon, the room we were in started to shimmer and change again. The door suddenly vanished, revealing a passage that had a corridor overlooking a void occupied by nothing more than deep purple mist, seemingly born out of and reabsorbed by the darkness. Undaunted, we carried on and eventually stumbled into a a wide chamber. Here was a fragment of Wulessa's past memory of a shrine to... The King of Wind Demons, that she once explored. We entered and Wulessa who took a form of a statue that warned us of guardians we needed to slay to bypass this area. We quickly took out the shadow conjured mihstus before the room suddenly changed again, this time into an empty room... except there was a GLASS GOLEM that came after us! Fortuntely my friends quickly took it out as they told me that it was simply another shadow conjuration that I failed to disbelieve, silly me.
After a long walk down another corridor in the strange mental "landscape", we came to a rather familiar place... Palhuna Murqual's shop. We entered as a familiar bell tinkled overhead, the shop’s layout remained the same, however the wares previously displayed in cases and on the walls were missing. "Palhuna Murqual" greeted us and immediately tried to make a deal for our freedom in exchange for keeping Wulessa. He held out on one hand, a key and on the other hand, a scroll with a picture of Wulessa. In my greed, I reached out to snatch both at the same time (just like what I did during my dream where Nethys held out his hands for the choice of power for salvation or destruction where upon I awoke to become a Dual-Cursed Oracle). To my surprise, "Palhuna Murqual" winked out of existance and reappeared elsewhere as I fell to the floor, knocked out for a short while. When I awoke, I found myself and the rest in Farseer Tower, they said that they choose to stay here to rescue Wulessa and that we had to prepare for Mortal Kombat while I was out on the floor. A moving portrait of Wulessa that hung on the wall thanked us for choosing to stay behind to help her and warned us to prepare for battle behind we head out.
After a short walk, we found ourselves in a simple empty room with a creature that looked like a crystal with many arms/legs, an unfettered eidolon. Before we engaged, it showed us many manifesting images of our friends and families looking disappointed around the room... mind games to lower our morale. This cheap trick only made us more determined to fight!
This enemy combatant had certainly done its homework to try and counter what powers/spells we could throw out but we still managed to overpower it in the end. My Ill Omen spell got past its Spell Resistance as Pihrana Striker landed the finishing blow to take out the unfettered eidolon that could hardly hit her.
With the unfettered eidolon defeated, a simple wooden door appeared at the edge of the void where we saw a view of the seance circle back in the material world. At last, we could exit this mental “landscape”!
Wulessa Yuul was back with us as she apologised for the trouble she caused and stated that she clearly needed more research into proper safeguards before delving into the Monadistic Archive.
Welcome back Wulessa Yuul, I hope you will never forget this misadventure...
