#05-01 The Glass River Rescue
GM: MIB
Characters/Players:
1. Gorges, Level 4 Assimar Cleric of Urgathoa (Fantastic Feast & Fight For Fat Father!)
2. Jenson, Level 3 Human Swashbucker (JENSON! YOOOUUURRRR... HIRED!)
3. FIB, level 5 Kitsune Mesmerist (The Glass River Deception!)
4. Jabear, level 2 Half-Orc Skald (WWWWAAAAGGGGGHHHH Time!)
Tier: High (4-5) with 4 player adjustment
Summary:
Players need to set out from Kerse via boat with dwarven envoys Metella Raugar and Amauhak and Kalistocrat Temel Passad to Mendev. They also need to rescue 3 captured dwarves last spotted around Gray Revelation Inn as they travel along the river. Only problem is having to travel along the rivers which the strict theocratic government of Razmir control. The PCs do their research on the culture of Razmiran and its state religion before they head off via Passad’s boat, Abacus.
As the PCs enter Razmiri waters, Passad suggests to dock at Xer and and pay any necessary tolls. However, Metella suggests to sail on and try to evade Razmiri authorities. The 2 of them get into a heated arguement before the PCs decided to go with Passad’s plan (much to the dissapointment of Metella). Upon docking at Xer, the Razmirian enforcer guards immediately came aboard and ordered that the ship was to be fully inspected for proper taxadation... when suddenly, a sickly pox infected Razmiran priest came out from the cabin below and demanded why the guards were interrupting this boat’s journey. The Razmiran priest was actually FIB who managed a very good disguise to fool the guards into thinking that they were dealing with an angry higher authority (complete with appropriate mask and realistic pox marks)! With a very good bluff and intimidate check, the guards believed that the boat needed to set off immediately further on to let the infected onboard see a more powerful healer, they didn’t want to end up getting punished by their higher ups again! At this moment, a loud sneeze came from belowdecks as Passad has chosen at this time to touch his snuff... which actually further convinced the enforcer goons that the ship indeed had diseased people that needed to hurry on to their destination and the PCs easily got away without trouble as the guards apologized and quickly got off the boat to avoid getting “infected”!
While the PCs continue upriver, they get ambushed by 2 river drakes. Fortunately, the PCs were more than a match for the 2 hungry predators as Jenson easily took on 1 all by himself and the other PCs sent the remaining drake crashing dead into the water. After the battle, they find some good loot and lots of gold pieces that the drakes had amassed, Gorges used some of that money to buy a slightly expensive Onyx gem from Passad to fund his casting of the spell Lesser, Animate Dead upon the corpse of the slain river drake (that was still on board). Rising up as an undead servant that obeyed Gorges’ command, the fat cleric was delighted to have a new member join their ranks.
Soon, the PCs reach the gray revelation inn where they meet the Sisters Grymble and their simple and mute stable hand Rosh. The PCs were fortunately wise enough to not fully trust the old trio of sisters who pretended not to know anything and managed to eventually uncover a secret cellar prison beneath the structure.
With a brillant plan to test out if the sisters were out to help Razmir and hinder the PCs, FIB hatched a plan to disguise and pose as a Razmiran Priest. It worked well as the sisters were quick to inform the 'Razmiran Priest' that Pathfinders had arrived to rescue their comrades. The 'Razmiran Priest' then "blessed" the sisters with supposely "super powers" and ordered them to eliminate the interloopers (when it was just FIB casting Prestigitation upon the sisters to give them glowing power hands and make them believe that they had "THE POWER")! With the sisters confident that Razmir has blessed them with a sacred duty, they tried to ambush the PCs who were in the secret cellar prison... but ultimately failed as they were all easily taken down. After interrogating and learning a great deal of information from the sisters, the PCs rescued the captured envoys and locked up in the women in the prison cells that once held captured envoys! Talk about karma!
Knowing that Holy Ahendile, the local Razmiri priest would be arriving soon. FIB once again pulled off a plan to disguise as one of the sisters and trick Ahendile into walking into an ambush. It worked brillantly as Ahendile and her minions totally believed the "sister" and went straight into the trap set up by the PCs. The minions quickly fell to the surprise attacks as poor Ahendile failed to save against Gorges' Ghoul Touch. With the priestess helpless, the PCs knocked her unconscious and captured her, they all agreed that she would make a good 'study subject' for the Pathfinder Society! Also, Gorges would get a new "altar boy" as he took the lost and curious Rosh along with him...
Poor sisters, the PCs complete forgot about them as they starved to death in their prison cells before the Razimiran authorities could discover that they were trapped down in the secret cellar... then again, the sisters were evil and did "attack" the PCs...
Nonetheless, a great victory for the Pathfinders as FIB, Gorges, Jenson & Jabear haved rescued their allies, sufficiently covered their tracks and have accquired a "live subject" for the Pathfinder Society to "study" upon!
