Emrys, tribal kellid demon hunter (ranger) from northern Numeria. Close to taking the path of paladinhood in the church of Iomedae - the decision before him is whether to go the route of Arcane Archer or Holy Gun.
Soros (Phantom Soros), halfling summoner native to Mendev. Follows a clandestine lifestyle due to fear of his serpentine eidolon getting him accused of witchcraft.
Emrys hails from a nomadic clan of northern Numeria, a people that keep moving to avoid the attentions of the Black Sovereign's legions. No stranger to incursions from the World Wound, all members of the clan are taught from a young age the ways of battling demons. The tribe's income is supplemented by scavenging the rich skymetal deposits and selling them along the pilgrim route towns. On one such trip to Nerosyan in his youth he was exposed to a demonic attack in the form of a Half-Life style head-crab missile (trebuchet load) that disgored its load in the centre of the city.
Emrys and Soros were both infected by the demonic head-crab larvae. Only the intervention of a nearby priest of Iomedae was able to stablilise those infected and get them to an infirmiary to perform a hybrid excorcism/operation. The ritual entailed a melding of minds between the hosts, parasites and priests so that pyschic battle could be engaged (Exposed to Awefullness trait). The ritual was a success and both heroes were saved but forever changed. The link now between the two (and the priest and whatever PCs/NPCs) is an unbreakable bond.
The two became firm friends and made a life along the pilgrim route, serving as guides in contrast to the usual hustlers preying on such travellers. In time however, exposed to the proselytising of Iomedae's faithful, Emrys eventually heeded the call north to Kenabres to join the crusade. Feeling himself bound to his fate, Soros accompanied him.
