Inaros abu Den was born the third son of a Garundi farming family in Commonfield, the breadbasket of Katapesh. Disinclined to adhere to the pesh-farming work ethic he would more often wander instead for hours in the outlands with only nature for company (some to torture, some to befriend). Resenting the harsh punishments meted out for laziness and sampling the crop, he absconded to the attraction of the fabled city of El-Fatar, leaving his family to assume he had been abducted by gnoll slavers.
El-Fatar turned out to be a city of wonders and opportunity for Inaros. The city had sprang up from an archaeological basecamp — established by a Pathfinder — in the ruins of an ancient city straddling miles of catacombs. It is a haven for treasure seekers and historians alike. Inaros thrived in this melting pot of adventurers and hopefuls, variously working as messenger, fixer, guide, thief and tomb raider.
It was in this marginal society that Inaros came into contact with the obscure cult of Areshkagal, the Faceless Sphinx, the patron of portals, riddles and greed. This encounter left him a bit richer, a little more superstitious, and with a tattoo of Areshkagal's symbol over his heart.
In time word percolated through the treasure-seeker set that ancient Osirion was opening up its borders to outsiders, and that the Pathfinder Society was a good avenue to get on this racket. Inaros wasted no time in securing a letter of introduction from a washed-up pathfinder with a pesh habit and set off by sea for the City at the Centre of the World.
Some people keep notes about possible leads; Inaros keeps tatoos. His body is covered with all the cryptic clues, snippets of sage advice, not so sage advice, and partial treasure maps he has either chanced upon or heard about. Understandably, the accuracy leaves a bit to be desired. Nevertheless the overall effect is impressive, with a host of arcane patterns and mystical symbols competing for space among the charts and stanzas. Many additions have been made after carousing for leads in the taverns of El-Fatar and Katapesh City, so the words and shapes are often just as mysterious to Inaros as they are to anyone else.
Other than that, Inaros is a firmly built and weathered Garundi male clad in dark desert attire, the only bright spot being his dawn-blue eyes that seem to get brighter as the conversation moves to buried treasure.
